Apple, taste, and food for thought for location-based AR
plus, a glimpse behind the scenes at BUBIKO PROJECT X
I don’t like to describe Maith as a newsletter. But ‘email magazine about people, tech and art’ is too long, and ‘personal notebook’ isn’t the most accurate.
Actually, this newsletter has been years in the making. The following links have been stored since 2022. Even though tech changes incredibly fast, there is value in these:
I know nothing about this company and this is not being paid for. In my research, I found this page which is full of industrial and military uses of AR. At the bottom of the page is a collection of resources. But what I really, really like is this sentence: “See how Manifest allows your expert users to easily document and record their tribal knowledge and distribute it across an entire workforce.” Tribal knowledge, tribal knowledge…in 2024.
Send texts in sold out stadiums and other places where cell service is a challenge. The device above is a prototype.
Last night I was in Ann Arbor, Michigan, home of the University of Michigan.(Insert mandatory “Go Blue” here :)) The networking event/startup showcase was sponsored by Ann Arbor Spark)
Maximize curated the startups.
Tirth Patel, from ImmiHealth: We help you find culturally competent and linguistically-aligned healthcare providers to ensure personalized and effective care.
ImmiHealth is extremely comprehensive, and besides a variety of digital and online services, they want to improve maps and signage in places like hospitals. If you have ever tried to find an office in the mazes of the U of M hospital you will understand how confusing it can be, whether you speak English or not! Location-based AR would solve this pain point.
I was fortunate to chat with Jack Woods the co-founder and CEO of Wave RF. Their pitch: send texts in areas without cell service. Hmm... Location-based AR in areas where cell service has dropped out? Reminds me of a little chef who tried to hack the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

The magical Lynn at Picaisso has promised to one day explain BUBIKO PROJECT X. The video above is a work in progress from that pioneering piece of AI+AR art.
